Dare County Jail Mugshots Online
Dare County does not publish a conventional desktop jail roster mugshot gallery on the official Detention Center page. The page covers visitation, mail, deposits, Securus phone and video, bond, NC SAVAN, and jail contact information, but no standing recent-bookings gallery or visible public mugshot roster was found in the captured official text. That finding should be stated plainly because many mugshot searches fail when a county does not post a browser roster.
The Dare County Sheriff's Office does publish selected news releases. Some releases reference photos or show arrest-related information, including charges, warrant status, bond, no-bond holds, and active-investigation details. Dare County Mugshots Public Record Law
North Carolina does not have a simple enacted statewide rule requiring every booking photograph to be published online. The public-records analysis starts with G.S. 132-1, which defines public records broadly to include photographs and other materials made or received in connection with public business. That does not mean every mugshot appears on a website, and it does not erase exceptions, agency discretion, or case-specific limits.

A 2025 bill titled "Prohibition on Disclosing Booking Photographs" was located, but it was not enacted law in the research. Request Dare County Booking Photos
Dare County centralizes many public-records requests through its Public Relations public-records page. The county says most records do not have to be requested in writing, but it asks for a written request for accuracy. The official Dare County Sheriff NC app was announced by Sheriff Doughtie in August 2024 and is listed on Apple App Store and Google Play. Apple lists the developer as Dare County Sheriff's Office NC, version 1.3.0 on Jan. 7, 2025, and a free reference app. Google Play lists OCV, LLC as publisher, a Jan. 7, 2025 update, and more than 1,000 downloads. Both store descriptions mention crime reporting, tip submission, interactive features, and public-safety news.

The app should be checked as an official sheriff channel, but its store listing alone does not prove that mugshots are posted in a current-inmate module.
Dare County Mugshot Removal
Dare County does not publish a jail roster removal policy for booking photos in the official detention pages reviewed. If a case is dismissed, eligible for expunction, or subject to a court order, the record-clearing route begins with the court process, not a commercial takedown site. The Dare County Criminal/Traffic page says expunction petitions are filed in the Clerk's Office, eligibility varies, fees vary, and the Clerk cannot give legal advice about which form to use or how to fill it out.
If a photo appears in an official sheriff release, that release is different from a live roster entry. A correction or removal question should be directed to the originating agency or handled through legal process. Commercial mugshot-publishing sites are not official Dare County sources and are not used as record sources here.
State and Federal Mugshot Limits
NCDAC profiles may display offender photos for state correction records, along with offender number, status, gender, race, ethnic group, birth date, age, names of record, incarceration summary, and sentence history. That is not a Dare County jail booking gallery. It is a state correction profile for people in state prison, probation, parole, post-release, or historical state records.
Federal and immigration systems are different. The BOP locator is for federal inmates from 1982 to present and generally shows name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. It is not a public federal mugshot gallery. ICE ODLS locates current ICE custody or CBP custody over 48 hours, but it is not a county-style mugshot search.
